Call it Quiz Night. Call it Ultimate Trivia Challenge. Call it Quizzo.
Call it whatever you want. Any way you look at it, trivia contests
have become a weekly fixture in most bars and clubs across the area,
offering patrons something fun and inexpensive to do to break up
the monotony of their week.
So what exactly is “Quizzo?” A test of the mind, Quizzo is basically
a glorified trivia contest. A person can play by themselves, or with
a group of people. There are approximately five rounds, with eight
to ten questions per round, and the questions can vary from completely
ridiculous to extremely difficult. As a bonus, a person can choose
one round to double his or her points, which may or may not give said
person an advantage over the other players. In addition, the next to
the last round is frequently a “picture round,” where participants
are given a sheet with famous and not-so-famous personalities on it,
and receive one point for each person they correctly identify. At the
end of five rounds, the person or team with the most points wins.
I am sure the next question on your mind now is how did this phenomenon,
known to many as Quizzo, get started? Quizzo was brought to Philadelphia
several years ago by a guy who used to work at Fergie’s Pub on Sansom
St. in Philadelphia. Eventually many bars in the city began to copy
it and even make their own rules up for Quizzo.
College Quizzo is a great program for lunch and dinner programming. It
is playable with crowds from 5 to 500. Our quiz master will lead the
teams through a series of 4-5 sets of questions, after which 1 team will
be standing. This winning team will then compete against themselves to
leave one person standing.
