Biography
Tom Acousti's The Power of Song and Personal Choice. This is an amazing and powerful way to bring your campus community together. It's part lecture, part town hall/community forum, where activist/teacher/songwriter Tom Acousti creates an environment where students talk about the issues of the day. The show starts with a discussion of the role music, art and media have played in elections and in political thought, and the use of live music is entertaining, but also helps create a really comfortable environment where students open up about their thoughts, fears and hopes far more than they normally would. Then Tom takes them into the realm of personal choice and their voice and the issues of the day. This town hall paired with a elements of a concert of topical music in the vein of Lennon or Guthrie is a great way to get students talking in a productive and safe environment about issues in the world...and to find themselves entertained in the same evening.
* This event can be tailored a bit to support Voter Registration activities. Tom will steer conversations about personal choice into the realm of finding and exercising their voice.
